Can a bike frame be light, stiff and comfortable at the same time? More than 100 years have passed since the invention of the traditional bicycle frame, but engineers continue to solve the problem of these incompatible properties. In 2012, TREK engineers came up with what is considered to be one of the most effective and advanced solutions to the above problems yet - IsoSpeed.
What is IsoSpeed? The IsoSpeed solution allows the frame seat tube to deflect within a limited range from its connection to the frame top tube. When the bike receives impacts from the road surface, the flexible connection absorbs and limits the shock transfer to the rider.
How was IsoSpeed developed? Like any advanced technology or solution, IsoSpeed TREK was developed through a long process of practical testing in close collaboration with professional athletes. One of them was Fabian Cancellara, one of the world's top cycling classics. The IsoSpeed connection system proved so effective that it is now also used to connect the frame top tube and the frame stem tube.
Of course, IsoSpeed will not replace a full-fledged spring or air shock fork at the front or rear of the frame - that is not the purpose of this design - but the system significantly reduces rider fatigue during long rides, increases comfort and safety levels, without compromising the weight of the bike and the overall stiffness of the frame.
Is the system safe? Since 2012, when TREK first installed IsoSpeed on the Domane, the system has been tested and won every major professional endurance race at Strade Bianche, Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix. Today, the IsoSpeed system is not only available on road bikes such as the Domane, Madone, but also on the Boone cross bike, Procaliber mountain bike, Checkpoint gravel bike and even the FX everyday fitness bike.
